Graduate School in Asian Studies

The Graduate School in Asian Studies started in January 2023 with funding from the Swedish Research Council.

The Swedish Research Council

It is a collaboration between the institutions listed below.

The Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University

The Stockholm Center for Global Asia at Stockholm University

The Center for Asian Studies at Stockholm School of Economics

The Department of Languages and Literatures at Gothenburg University

The Asia Program, The Swedish Institute of International Affairs

The Swedish National China Centre, The Swedish Institute of International Affairs

The graduate school is open to doctoral students from all Swedish universities working on contemporary issues in East and South-East Asia but it also welcomes doctoral students from other universities outside of Sweden depending on the availability of places in courses/events and resources. It brings together doctoral students from different disciplines within the humanities and social sciences and thus creates synergies between existing PhD programmes. The graduate school provides and organizes a range of courses and events such as:

  1. jointly developed interdisciplinary doctoral courses
  2. regular research seminars/webinars
  3. thematic days and workshops
  4. an annual graduate school meeting
  5. a mobility programme
  6. a mentor programme and career events
