This event addressed recent political developments and the human rights situation in selected countries in East and Southeast Asia. Scholars from the region and Lund University discussed recent positive developments as well as setbacks and increasing repression. The event also addressed the role of scholars and the situation for academic freedom in the region.

The whole event was filmed by UR (Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company) and if you click the links below you can see each speaker as well as the panel discussion. Everything is in English and has Swedish sub titels.

Inside/Outside, a video installation was screened in the foyer. The piece, built on a concept by Nguyen Thanh Thuy - an artistic PhD student at the Malmö Academy of Music - addresses gender issues in contemporary music culture in Vietnam. The installation was presented with support from the Inter Arts Center, Malmö.
